Thank you to everyone that helped me get my son’s truck running. I got the carb on, new oil pan gasket, new power steering pump, etc. and it runs great. This will be a huge help to him as he is starting career in HVAC and going to school at night for his electrician’s license.
The truck came with a chrome front bumper but the bumper guards are missing. Does anyone have a set laying around they’d be willing to sell (or donate)?
Those guards may be hard to find and expensive to buy. They were an accessory usually only found on the higher trim level trucks. I see your truck has no trim at all on it, so that might not be the original bumper.
IMO they are not that pretty, I'm glad my truck doesn't have them. If he's starting school, IMO I would only put towards making the truck run the best it can.
Have you replaced the fuel filter and made sure the fuel filler hose is in good shape, as well as all the fuel lines and brake lines ?
On the lower left of the brochure in the link are the brochure page numbers. If you look on page 18, the bumper guards where part of a "protection group" and included the guards and the black plastic strips on the chrome bumper. While you could order any truck with those strips and guards, you will notice in the brochure most trucks that had that checked off, had many other boxes checked off also.

It’s not. We put it on there this weekend because the other one was bent.

I’ve always liked those on the bull nose body style, but not the older ones. We’ve got it running like a new one (new carb and filter, distributor, radiator, tires and power steering pump). I checked all the brake lines and they are all rock solid. He also put new front brakes on it. This truck is amazingly solid underneath. Even the bed floor is as smooth as the body panels. He’s got about $3,500 in the truck total including purchase price and parts. Hard to find a deal like that these days!

That bumper looks like the one in the brochure less the bumper guards. Maybe I see bolts in the holes in your picture?
If you can't find a decent pair in a wrecking yard or on ebay you could fab up a set. I think you could get a piece of black UHMW stock, shape it, counter sink some holes and bolt them on. Very tough material yet easy enough to shape and drill using common tools.

That sounds like you got a good deal, the truck looks great for its age. Be sure and check the fuel filler hose, they can get pretty bad looking and begin to leak. If you need I have a How Too sticky up top for the fuel filler hose.

Thank you! I did take a look at it but not closely. I’ll take another look next time it finds its way home.
