I tried FORScan, bought the extended license and the recommended adapter to connect my laptop and it worked from gitgo. I really don't know how to use it yet but I did figure out how to download trouble codes and how to run an injector test. It told me to replace the SpeedSensor on the rear, the Barometric sensor under the dash and now the tranny is shifting proper; it also told me to connect the cable for #2 & #4 injectors (I had replaced my fuel filter canister, HPOP hoses & return hoses so the injector cables were disconnected to run the hoses, THAT pigtail didn't get reconnected) and now she is running sweeter than ever!
My 2 regrets is that I didn't get FORScan sooner and that I cannot find a 'tutorial' to take full advantage of what the program can do.
If anybody knows where where a 'tutorial' is located, point me in the right direction. I go to their website forum and gte some insight and downloaded their program overview, but I need to know more.

Here's the Forscan tutorial. It explains how to use the "programming" functions. There is no tutorial on how to interpret and troubleshoot data.

Yes, I downloaded that and they speak about creating a dashboard and populating it but don't give examples or recommendations of whats important. I guess they think that a trained service tech would be using the program, I'm stomping around blind trying to figure it all out.

Hi, yes I can also recommend the ForScanner. It is low cost and easy to use. The only problem is that I cannot read all car systems. No idea why. In the shop they always have a much longer list of systems.

I got FORScan and I used it with this adapter OBDLink EX. When I read DTCs while the engine is at idle, it nearly stalls for just one instant and then resumes normal idle. Is that normal?

No, that is not normal. Sounds like a communication problem on the network. Do you get any communication failure DTCs? I have seen comm faults caused by reading certain data from the PCM while driving on my 2016 Transit Connect.

I think the first time I read DTCs, I got, I think, P1111, which was described as “all clear”, if I remember correctly. No other DTCs.

I see, you use this OBDLink adapter. I checked it out. WOW - this is really expensive. I use a normal ELM adapter and before paying for another adapter I tried other apps, hoping they work better with my adapter. I found the ULTRA OBD app and tried it. This works really well. Much easier to use than FORScan. And it is completely FREE - crazy a free app with all these functions

Oh, I don't know. The cable that I bought is not expensive as compared to what I would have to pay for an AutoEnginuity kit to do the same thing. This cable is supported by FORScan and FORScan is supported by the cable's manufacturer. To put it in perspective, that experience I described with the BlueDriver scanner happened in a particularly urban part of St. Louis while I was trying to figure out why my engine was running on 4 cylinders. I think it was just junk in the fuel system from sitting so long, since that was pretty early in a long road trip, and it smoothed out pretty soon after that and I have not had a problem since. The point is that in that moment, I would have paid a lot more money than I did for that cable for something that could reliably and quickly help me figure out the problem and get me back on the road.

What I am trying to say is that "expensive" is a subjective and relative adjective. It is good, though, that you found a more affordable adapter that works for you!

I've been looking at Forscan and adapters. I have an AutoEnginuity license, but haven't updated in years. I looked on their site and they're talking about a new adapter and it's confusing and Forscan looks pretty good and cheaper than even the $50 yearly fee I'd at least have to pay to reactivate my AE.

Forscan is saying on their web site that they don't recommend the ELM327 adapters any longer. Too many different makers and quality has suffered. They recommend the OBDLinkEX mentioned above, or the
vGate VLinker vGate VLinker
which is cheaper. I'm planning on getting the VLinker, I think.
