Okay so I did a flush to my power steering system here on @speakerfritz 's power steering filter thread.
I sprayed the hoses down in front of the truck with brake cleaner as they got some old fluid on them when I removed the return line off the power steering cooler.
Unfortunately, my left headlight housing plastic did not appreciate being accidently hit with brake cleaner and this happened:
I figure it was from the cold temperature of the cleaner coming out of the can that caused all the mini-cracks all over the housing....
Luckily, my friend found a set of OEM headlight housings in great shape listed for $150. He offered the guy $100 and I was in...
Oh ow. Thats a chemical reaction, some plastics and brake cleaner do not get along well. More than likely the Acetone. Causes the plastic to shrink quickly. Usually it just clouds over, but thats the first I have seen that shattered.
I’m not sure I would use brake cleaner on any type of rubber or plastic without testing it first. Got it on a plastic interior trim piece once and it ruined it.

I really did not mean to get it on the headlight housing... what I should have done was spray it on a shop paper towel and wiped the hoses down. It seemed to not affect the hoses. When I was installing my DPK, I had to clean something, forgot what it was, and I was standing on the tech step, so I sprayed brake cleaner into shop towels and faced away from the truck being real careful not to let it go towards my headlights. Lesson learned.
I've learned the hard way never to get brake cleaner near my vehicle.
When I use brake cleaner it's on the rotor with the rotor off and away from my vehicle.

It also depends on if its chlorinated or not. The Cali stuff must be non chlorinated, which doesn't contain tetrachloroethylene, or MEK, or any of those other chemicals known to cause cancer. Acetone is exempted from VOC regs, so thats what most of the cleaner contains now. If you used the non chlorinated cleaner, it has a LOT of acetone which crazes plastic quickly.

I'll have to look and see if that's what it was... I'm thinking...
