351M pistons
I am rebuilding the engine in my sons truck and on top of the piston's, there is a "40" stamped on them. Does that mean that it has been bored 40 over or just that it signify's a 4 inch bore? Thanks

40 on a piston usually means .40 over...sometimes when they rebuild engines they stick a tag on the side of the block somewhere that says whats been done to it but if there was one there it probly fell off.

That block is probably shot. Have a machinist measure it. You will need to find another one. That 0.040 overbore is close to the limits as it is and probably over with wear.
When you get a new block get a 400 for a performance boost. The engines are the same outside so everything will bolt on.
