53 f100 fan shroud

Is there any other year of fan shroud that will fit or be able to make fit my 53 f100 radiator? I have a 350 sb in it.

Many years are very similar. I won't recommend any specific years as it's a trial and error and I don't know your skill level.

Are you using an OE style radiator? It might just be easier to go with an electric fan and if you want a shroud get an aftermarket one that fits that particular fan and radiator. Look at what Mid Fifty offers as they have several fans, shrouds and mounting kits listed. If your using a Chevy radiator bracketed in somehow it will require some more creativity I suppose. Still in that case an electric fan would be the way to go. What ever you do also check to make sure you have a hood to upper radiator valance seal that fits into the "C" channel just under the front of the hood. And the gravel pan to radiator seal under the grill in front of the radiator. Mine was missing both of these and after installing them runs on the open road about 10 degrees cooler. One other thing about adding an electric fan. I plumbed in a thermostat controlled fan on switch into the thermostat housing. Wired it to a relay and the whole thing turns the fan on at 195 and off at about 180. It's nice to have idling in stop and go traffic on a hot day.

A stock V8 '53 radiator would have 2 upper and 2 lower hose connections, where the Chevy engine would only use one each. A 6 cylinder rad would have the single connection, but may not be of the orientation necessary to hook up to the chevy. You'd need to check that. And unless the chevy fan is in the exact spot the original engine fan was, the stock shroud likely won't fit or do you any good, anyway. Anything this custom would be luck of the draw to find a particular shroud that would be the perfect fit.

Are you using the original rad?
I have the same motor in mine but bought a Champion rad that was made for this combo. Came with an electric fan but did not keep the truck cool. After talking to Champion I found out I got hosed on the fan (longer story) Bought a Derele fan and now the truck runs better and stays at the right temp in every situation I have put it through.

I have a fan shroud for a six-cylinder 215 cid engine (1952/1953) that I won't be using. PM me for details and dimensions.

My fan shroud really fit well but my fan would not clear, so I had to equally shave off a little on each blade to insure it would stay in balance. Maybe 1/4 of an inch all total. It just might be a fan off of another vehicle. Maybe a thunderbird. My engine is a 312 witha auto three speed. Tried to look up part numbers for a 55 F-100 buy I could not find any that was even closeAJ.

I have seen info saying they didn't use fan shrouds on a lot of ford trucks. How did they keep them from over heating? Last time I had my truck out it started to over heat.

There are lots of reasons an engine could overheat Pappy. Tell us if you notice it gets hot while driving on the road at 55 MPH. Which would seem to be a coolant flow issue. Or does it just overheat while idling thus being an airflow problem. Or those symptoms could also exist because of air trapped in the cooling system, retarded ignition timing, bad radiator or radiator that needs a flush and flow test, too lean of jets in the carb, bad thermostat, plugs with too high of heat range, water pump problems, and I am sure there could be more.

It started over heating sitting still. Once I got back on the road driving it came back down to normal. It was in the 90s here that day. New radiator.

Sounds like too low of airflow at idle. With the hood shut and engine running can you take a kleenex and place it in front of the radiator. Is the kleenex being sucked into the front of the radiator? It should be. As mentioned before try an electric fan.

A shroud isn't 100% necessary, but without a shroud your fan needs to be 1" from the core, just enough room to get a wrench on the bolts, and be large enough to cover as much of the core as possible. If your fan is too far away, that will be a cause of overheating at slow speeds or at stop lights.

I was running my 1953 215 ci six cylinder without a fan shroud . It would over heat big time. Like up to 212 degrees I put the full shroud on it. With a 160 thermostat. The hottest it gets is 170 degrees. Yes. It needs a shroud.

Really interesting reading. My Y Block has two water sending units, one at the pump and one at the rear of the left head. I've been using both front is mechanical the rear unit is electric. Bot running Stewart Warner Gauges. The water pump side comes puts out about .180 the rear unit puts out about 199 to 205. Don't know about the right side in the rear but it should be about the same as the left. My fan I had to trim and it's about 2 inches from the core. All my seals are their got them from mid 50. When it gets hot I dont drive it. Been working on it lately. Hot summer here in North Texas.AJ.
oh when I open my heater valve everything gets about 10 degrees coolerAJ
