Gorilla glue has kept mine in place for several years now.

If you wanted to eliminate the plastic piece, you could consider something like this. It came from a thread on the Tremor forum recently where people we having trouble finding plastic clips & kept breaking the ones they had.

The factory hole is perfectly sized for a 5/16"-18 tap (~0.265" ø). No drilling should be required.

Plan is to tap it for threads and get a 5/16"-18 stainless shoulder bolt (as we don't want to clamp the rubber 100% and fatigue it over time or chew it up with normal bolt threads). The shoulder bolt will bottom out.

Bolt dimension spec: 5/16"-18 thread, 3/8" shoulder diameter, 3/16" shoulder length. The shoulder length will facilitate a slight preload clamp on the rubber to prevent the bump stop from flopping around, and of course the shoulder will bottom out against the body.

You will only need to enlarge the hole in the OEM bump stop to 3/8".

Providing 316 and 18-8 stainless steel options if you want to save a couple dollars per shoulder bolt (316 is more corrosion resistant).

Another vote for whatever high strength adhesive you have laying around, Snagged a spoonful of two part epoxy from my boss and fixed both of them.

No, I had the same issue as OP. They serve to keep the tailgate tight when it’s closed.

When mine fell off the tailgate had play in it. So if one was left like that for extended periods of time I could see it getting worse as it wore out the latching mechanism and rattle worse.

I got a full replacement bushing that came with new rivet and mine has been good.

Good info and suggestions. The right side one just fell out on mine recently, hadn’t done anything about it yet.

Hi all, thx for input
Tapped out holes. put in 5/16 SS screws. This way they wont get knocked off again when loading unloading bed.
thx again!

Drilled out hole just bit to fit the 5/16 tap correctly

5/16 - 18 tap

SS 5/16 -18 by 1"

This is what I’ve used.
Quick and cheap. No dissimilar metals in contact so corrosion shouldn’t be an issue.
Fits 1/4” hole and hasn’t come off again. Best part is it’s removable, small slot screwdriver and you can back out the wedge.

When mine went, checked with dealer and had to buy bumper to get rivet, was Cdn $30.00 + tax.

Should be able to get at hardware store or Home Depot.

Found these on Amazon - worked for me

I came here to share the wealth. I found this post while researching a fix for my busted tailgate stop clips.

I believe that the tap/die solution is probably the most permanent fix, but if you’re like me and didn’t have access to a tap/die set, these retainer clips worked for me.

Hope that helps y’all.

I have a big box of assorted push rivets. When one of mine came off, just grabbed another out of the box. You can get a large box of assorted sizes and they are not expensive.

I have a 2017 F350. My tailgate bumpers were getting ready to fall off all I had at home were a couple 5/16 fine short (1/2”) Allen head bolts. I tapped the existing hole and snugged the bumpers in place.

Those stainless bolts are not likely to corrode.

But any thread tapped aluminum that the stainless steel bolts are screwed directly into... will most certainly corrode.

The stainless steel bolt head will continue to look perfect, while the aluminum is corroding under the bolt head and surrounding threads.
