The advice from the board has helped me so much. I have a '93 F150. The drivers side power window is not working right. i can hear the motor run but the window won't move. a couple weeks ago it was clunking when it reached the top and i thought it sounded like a nylon gear was finally stripping off or something. Is there such a gear in there and what is the best way to go about replacing it? Thanks, Kent
Actualy it should be the same as mine. If it is there are three I think plastic rollers in the motor that blow apart after time. I buy them in big bags because I do them so much at work but you can get a kit at the ford dealer for just a few bucks to replace them. Take your motors gearbox cover off and see if it is the same. I have never had to replace a motor yet on an older truck. Just those rollers in the gear box. It's real easy once youve done a couple.
I did a window motor repair job on a '87 Dodge van last week. I had to drill out the rivets holding the motor and crank assembly. The gear sets were shot but the motors were fine. The dealership wanted $69.70 + tax for one gear set. I got them at O'Rielly for $15.87 ea. When I reinstalled the assembly I used nylon insert nuts on the bolts replacing the rivets.
Thank you!! I will tackle it over the thanksgiving weekend. strangely it started working again but I figure it's just that the rollers must be in position. as soon as they slip again, it'll stop working.
