setting a cam

well here this winter im going to put my new cam in my truck. and i was wondering how to set it in there with out throwing every thing off my guess is there is wo marks on the timing gear just bring it around till they meet and it set. but see that seem way to eazy so its prolly wrong.

your timing/cam crank gears have punch marks -line them up typically the crank gear has a punch mark on a tooth and the cam has the mark between teeth. If you can get a carank gear with multiple keyways you can adv. or retard your cam.
