I hit a bird with my drivers side mirror on my 2015 and cracked the mirror housing. Everything functions on it, it just looks bad and squeaks when I fold it in. I looked into getting a new mirror assembly, but I am looking at $1500 from ford to get the correct mirror (tow mirror, power fold and extend, turn signal, blind spot, 360 camera). I was wondering if the housing itself is the same across options. Could I get a cheaper version and just steal the cracked parts to swap onto my assembly? Is it possible to even disassemble it enough to swap parts? Since the mirror is still functional, I find it hard to spend that much money just for cosmetic repair.
Start searching salvage yards near you for a good mirror. IMHO, I'd rather have a non-power mirror vs. a damaged one. I'm not sure if the fitment is the same on all the mirrors though.
Your other option is to buy a new set of aftermarket mirrors. They often are around $500 for a set, so that could get you a spare if it is close enough in appearance.
I completely understand how you feel. About 2 years ago I caught the passenger mirror on the garage door opening. I just broke the black "ring" that goes around the mirror broke. Had to buy a whole new mirror. FInal bill was $1,200.00 PLUS I got an insurance rate increase. It's a pity you have to spend so much for a mirror. BUT, as you know you have all the extras in that mirror that makes it expensive. (Ask me how I know). LOL
Might be worth considering an insurance claim. My insurance told me my premium would not go up for acts of nature claims. I have had claims for hitting an elk and hail damage. Each claim was over $20k. Neither affected my rate. I am sure each insurance company is different, so check with yours first. Good luck!
