V10 or 7.3V8 I don't know which one to get?More opinions

I've got a boat I want to tow 5,000 lbs. plus gear. I just can't decide between the diesel or V10. I found one locally in great shape V10 for $24,500 with the TV and VCR. Out of state Diesel but it is $31,995. Will the V10 out tow the V8 7.3? I will tow probably 30 times a year.
Thanks
Travis

No way is the diesel worth $7500 more. The V-10 will tow your boat without breaking a sweat.

You'll cry all the way to the gas station. My 7.3 does 17-18 going to/from work and 10-12 towing an 8,ooo lb trailer. Differential was 3500 for the diesel not 7500.....

Oh no, not that arguement again!!

As far as the differential, I believe he is talking about the above example. Is that what you were referring to or was it your own vehicle that you were referring to?

Let's do the math...again...

Here in MA diesel is more than regular but let's say they were the same at 1.359. I buy gas for 1.339 and diesel is 1.399 so I'll meet in the middle.

I get 15 going to and from work. 75% highway 25% secondary/city streets. But let's use 14 as MY number. That is .097 per mile driven. 1.359/14

You get 17. That is .079 (1.359/17) a mile. A difference (rounded UP) is .02. (Actually 0.018)

Your up-charge was $3500.00.

I hope that your truck goes 175,000 miles. I have NO DOUBT that it will given proper maintenance (another story). But that is your break even point.

This obviously changes with market price flucuations and where you live in the country.

Get it cause you like it, it's got great diesel trq, it's easy to upgrade and hop-up, it growls at idle, you like it, you can justify the added cost...just don't fall into the false (short term) economy.

Or do what I'm gonna do...get one of each!

I'll try to make this short. I wanted a diesel, I tried them both and bought the V-10. I have been driving a 2001 V-10 LTD 4X4 with a 3.73 LS rear now for 27,000 miles and thank god I bought it. The diesel had too much stink, too much noise and not enough go from red light to red light. It was ok when you got her wound up, but nothing to offer off the line. I tow an 8000 pound searay boat every weekend in the hills of new england, the V-10 does a great job, it very rarely shifts out of overdrive at highway speed, carries 800 pounds of tongue weight without a problem and gets 12 mpg while towing. Unloaded I get 13/14 mpg around town and 15/17 on the highway under 70 mph, over 70 the mpg goes to about 14. I'm also a cyclist, this truck is the answer to our needs, I remove the third seat, load 5 bikes with gear and 5 riders and drive for hours in comfort (everybody). No complaints, it's the most useful vehicle on earth, buy one if you do things, it will add to your fun by carrying and towing your toys.
