Start the engine leave in Park and go under the hood and operate the throttle plate manually. Very easy to tell if its a sticking. It doesnt take much more than the throttle plate getting stuck slightly off idle for the engine to rev up like that. Ive seen it too many times over the years, the throttle assembly gets corroded and just needs some oil.
