APIM Replacement
My SYNC 3 is very slow to respond to input changes, constantly displays error messages, GPS is no longer accurate, and some other issues, so I suspect that the APIM has failed. Wife’s 2018 Expedition is starting to develop some of the same symptoms, so I suspect I’ll be repairing two APIM modules soon.
I found some older threads about APIM replacement, but some of the vendors listed in those threads don’t seem to be in business anymore.
If you have replaced your APIM recently, where did you purchase the replacement? Any issues with the performance of the replacement device?
I had to replace my apim in my 21 450 just a few months into ownership due to the CarPlay mic sensitivity being almost nonexistent so callers on the other end could hardly hear what I was saying. No issues via bluetooth and it didn't matter which iPhone was plugged in. I also had some intermittent issues with the gps getting lost on the truck and it overriding the CarPlay google maps. A few other oddities.
Dealership tried a refresh and it didn't work so they replaced the apim only after I shared several threads on here of CarPlay mic issues.
Since replacement in 21 I've had to do a hard reset several times on long trips when out of nowhere the gps gets lost and screws up my google maps via CarPlay. Take 30 seconds or so for it to come back up and hit start for map to recalculate. Otherwise no issues.
Hope that helps.
I ordered and installed a used APIM that was programmed to my VIN. Works great and install only tool about 20 minutes.
I ordered it from Simply Michigan Infotainment. Good price, good communication, fast shipping, and good packaging.
