I was planning on installing a 3" body lift on my 88 bronco, I was wondering if there was anything I needed to change or modify (shift linkage, etc). Thanks for your help.
You will need to modify the shift linkage if auto tranny. Most parts should flex enough for the lift. You might inspect all the body mounts and change any that are worn out.
The hardest part is if the nuts are rusted then you might be cuting bolts, make sure you have an impact wrench.
Also, you are gonna catch alot of crap about body lifts, just make sure you do it right or you know someyone thathas done one before. A properly done body lift will have no ill effects.
And some kits offer the bumper relocation brackets.
Other than that good luck.
Watch your fan shroud! Shifting the body up 3" will lower the fan and it will eat the shroud in a heartbeat. MAke sure the fan is still pulling enough air across the radiator too. Manufacturers of decent body lifts will note any adjustments that should be made when installing their lift. BTW if the body lift doesn't come with grade 8 bolts...toss them and go get grade 8's. Any time you push the body that far away from the frame you increase the sheer (sideways) pressure on the mounting bolts. My brother found that out the hard way with grade 5's on his 2" body lift and his Bronco is one of the little originals, 1976. Not the big heavy full size.
ya the fan shroud is one thing we also had to custom make a peace of steering linkage. also if you didnt get brackets for the bumper you will have to do some welding and modifying.
