Grease Zerks
I have a 1979 F250 4x4 300i6, NP435, 205, Dana 44 & Dana 60 truck. It's new to me, and I'm about to give him his first oil change in my care. I've got the original owner's manual and shop books, but they're honestly a little confusing to me when it comes to greasing. Can somebody dumb it down, or point me to a thread, or video (preferred) if that is out there... I can't seem to find it if it is. Essentially, I need to know where I need to grease, and what grease to use.
Really appreciate y'all's help,
Duane
A good chaise greas is all you should need.
Starting at the front check all tie rod ends for fittings. I dont know your truck & 4x4's but at the left & right tires there should be fittings.
The at the pit man arm and at the main tie rod fittings.
At each wheel where it turns there should be a grease fitting up top & bottom of the kingpins.
Take the weight off the kingpins before greasing.
Between the wheel and axle housing there maybe a fitting on the axle Ujoints.
May need to lock the hub and turn the tire to get to the fitting.
You have a Ujoint at each wheel.
Front drive shaft Ujoints may have fittings at the axle & the transfer case ends.
You should have a fitting in the middle of the drive shaft for the slip spline.
Transfer case shift linkage may have a fitting not 100% sure on this one?
Rear drive shaft jut like the front Ujoints may have fittings at the transfer case and rear axle.
There should be a slip spline fitting in the middle of shaft.
You may also have a mid shaft bearing that may take grease.
Dont forget to hit the door hinges and latches and tail gate with lube.
Again some Ujoints may not have fittings and same for tie rods but as long as you look them over to make sure they do not have a fitting and done show sign of rust you should be ok.
I think that should cover just about everything.
