1997 Explorer - After Engine Rebuild Problems
Last year, had the engine in my 97 Explorer Rebuilt by a reputable machine shop... The is a V6 X engine.
The engine was rebuilt due to a rod knocking... after heads had been replaced.
The Explorer idles perfectly, and runs quite well.... but since the rebuild, have noticed a dramatic reduction in power (not too much to start with) and horrible fuel economy... Was getting about 340 Miles per tank not only getting about 270.
The new engine now has about 12000 miles on it and has started using about 1 QT of oil per 1000 miles.
By the way, I am the original owner.
Here is my question. have checked everything possible to correct.
1. New 02 sensors
2. New plugs and wires
3. New cat converter
4. Checked the Cam Position sensor to be sure it was installed correctly.
5. Had Fuel Injectors checked and cleaned.
6. New Air Cleaner
7. Had machine shop pull timing chain cover to be sure they were not 1 notch off.
At this point, am thinking about pulling out the engine and replacing with one from a salvage yard... Found one for $650 out of a 99 Explorer with 67K miles. Need to know what year engines will bolt right in without modifications.
Thanks
