Trying to find a sending unit for my 84 6.9L... has anyone found a place that sells them? I've been directed to Trexauto.com and just wondering if they're good
What type, oil or coolant temp? You have two for the coolant temp. Or maybe the sending unit for the fuel tank?
my bad, it’s my fuel sending unit..
but now that you mention, there’s two coolant sensors?? I only knew of the one I’ve replaced and my gauge still doesn’t work. Where is the second one located?
So what one dose the gauge (sender?) and the other (over heat?)?
Would over heat be so the glow plugs dont run when the motor is up to temp?

Only thing I can figure, it was Ford's way to overcome their lousy gauges. One sending unit is a regular sending unit like found on a gas engine and it drives the temp gauge in the cluster as normal. The other temp sending unit is a temp switch. When it gets to a preset temp, it closes. They have this wired to the temp gauge circuit and a "check engine" light. Your temp gauge will be in the 3/4 scale range, and suddenly the gauge will peg and the engine light will come on. That is what the temp switch does.

Ok kicks on a light when over heating got it.
My 02 Durango sounds an alarm when the gauge gets in the high range so I found out once when pulling my car trailer and stuck in traffic.
Come to find out the electric pusher fan that runs when the AC is on was failing.
You did not see this at speed as air was pushed thru the condenser & radiator.

To the original thread starter; I am getting conflicting info as to if the 1986 diesel had the two senders for the temp gauge. Some say it did, but I looked in the 1986 diagrams and it does not show it wired that way. I know my 1989 is wired that way, but the earlier diesel trucks may not be. If you can't find the other sender, then do not worry about it.

MTS company was selling sending units for our trucks. Check here:
