I'm getting code 552 in the KOEO test. TAB circuit fault.
Would I be correct in assuming that because this is happening without the engine running it would point to a bad TAB valve?
I can't see this being triggered by a vacuum issue if the engine is not running and therefore no vacuum is present.
Am I on the right path of thinking here?
This is an electrical fault code. It's saying your TAB solenoid is either shorted or disconnected. It might be due to damaged wiring, a corroded connector, or a burnt out magnetic coil inside your solenoid.
The computer is looking for a certain amount of resistance on that circuit... I wanna say 10-20 ohm, but I'm just guessing. If it doesnt see that, it'll throw the 552 code.
The TAB solenoid is part of the AIR injection system that pumps fresh air into the catalytic to help burn up hydrocarbons and keep the emissions low. A lot of people remove this system because the expensive pump wears out and makes noise.
Driving it without a malfunctioning TAB solenoid won't cause any problems to the truck or the drivability. It will increase exhaust emissions.
If I recall correctly the TAB solenoid is the same as the 4x4 solenoid. When I done the 1's on 87 the only difference was the key slot in the connector. The orignals on truck you cannot plug in wrong as the connectors were different. Look at your TAB and look at the 4x4 auto locking hub solenoid.
I pulled 4 sets when I was the the pick and pull last time TAB,TAD and EGR.
Ok, Thank you prototype. I have no emission testing on this vehicle here in Wisconsin. As long it causes no damage to the truck I'm just going to run with it until I find one. If not, future plans were to remove the cat anyway when I upgrade the exhaust. This truck will see less then 500 miles per year as it's a summer weekend toy for hauling my 4 wheelers and boat.

I have an XL model with manual locking hubs. If that solenoid is available at rockauto I will compare it to my TAB solenoid
Hard code. I have been chasing it for a while now. I made sure vacuum lines to it were intact and in good shape. Checked electrical plug connection, it's clean and tight.
The KOEO self-test is an electrical test only. So either you are not getting the right voltage back to the computer or you have a power supply or ground problem or a computer problem or a wiring problem in that circuit.
TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 553 AND 552: CHECK VOLTAGE OF VPWR CIRCUIT. DTCs 553 and 552 indicate that voltage output for Secondary Air Injection solenoid(s) did not change when activated. Possible causes: -- AIRB/AIRD circuits shorted to power. -- AIRB/AIRD circuits open or grounded. -- AIRB/AIRD resistance out of range. -- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
