New forscan issue?

In the past I have never had any issues with forscan. The other night I was sitting in the drive thru opened my phone and pulled up forscan which had been running in the background. All of a sudden my truck died. Put it in park fired right back up. Hit play on forscan again truck immediately dies again. Drive home and try to reproduce the issue with no luck. Then later on that night I pulled up forscan out of the background hit play truck dies. I've noticed if I start with a freshly opened forscan it works normal. If I open another app and forget I had forscan running when I reopen and try to stream data my truck immediately dies. Since I've already figured out a work around its no big deal, but I've never had this problem before. Any idea what it could be or is anyone else having this issue?

I have not had that issue. I have had Torque Pro kill the engine, but not FORScan. I run it in the background often, both on the android phone (Samsung S7) and on the android head unit (ATOTO A6 Pro and ATOTO S8 Premium), and am able to pull it up when needed and check streaming data.

What phone model are you using, and what FORScan version? I'd say try to download the latest version and try again. Might be a corrupted installation.

What PIDs are you running? Want to check your list and see if any might not be right for the 7.3 and can be eliminated or changed for the right one.

Ok that list of PIDs looks good. I'm using that same FORScan Lite version and kernel on the truck unit and the S7.

Does FORScan report any codes after it dies?

What OBDII dongle are you using?

Using obdlinkmx+ and no errors. It seems to only happen when I'm live streaming data and open another program. If it stops recording when I open it back up and press play that's when the engine will shut off. If it's still giving me live data there is no issue. Forscan does seem to freeze up. It wont let me click back to the main menu, but it will let me push the play button which causes the engine to shut off. It does not stream any data when this happens. I have to close and restart forscan for it to work properly. If I dont it will die everytime i press play. It's just really weird because I haven't changed anything and it's never done this before.

I think I'll enable debug mode and try to replicate. See if maybe forscan can see an issue

Have you tried a hard restart on phone? Any new phone updates installed lately?

I had that happen with a Code Reader plugged in.

I was cruising down the hwy at 70 mph, and flipped it to LIVE DATA,
and the engine died momentarily, and the Cruise picked it up, and resumed on.

scared me just long enough, to realize what happened.
I never tried that again.

I have reset my device and it has happend once since then. I can't recreate the issue when I want. Most of the time when I reopen the app forscan will tell me it has disconnected allow me to back out and allow me to reconnect with no issue. I have debug mode enabled now I'll just have to wait and see if it happens again. Worst case I can always put my tablet back in here or use the excuse to buy a new deck. But I was getting ready to add my dual bosch pump set up and buy a new turbo. So hopefully it was just some random hiccup and I don't have to chase down any electrical bugs

I have not had it stop recording on it's own, unless I shut off the truck, or I hit the stop button. Maybe that's why I have not experienced this issue. I wonder why it is stopping.

That may be the million $ question. Got me to checking my device settings and forscan was set on always sleep which would cause it not to run in the background. I will have to test it out today and see if it will continuously run. Hopefully that solves my issue. Not even sure how that happend it was literally the only app on always sleep. 🤦‍♂️

Just wanted to update no issues since I fixed the settings on my device. I'm guessing I either fell asleep on my phone or randomly changed some settings while my phone was in my pocket. BWST thanks for the assistance.
