When i get my truck converted to standard, i was wanting to know which would be the better type or style of clutch to run?
I'm down to the choices between a Hydraulic type system or a mechanical linkage type system. Which of these two would be better? It seems to me that the hydro system has better pedal feel, but is also more effort on my bad knee to work it properly.
With a manual clutch its a little stiff but nothing that i couldn't handle working every day, but the pedal feel isn't quite as good as hydro.
Which would you recommend? I'm leaning more towards the mechanical just because its easier on my knee...but i'm welcome to any opinions.
I personally prefer a mechanical linkage. I'm surprised to hear you say you like the feel of a hydraulic better. In the vehicles I've driven over the years, I've found mechanical linkage to give a better feel AS LONG AS EVERYTHING IS STRAIGHT AND WORKING PROPERLY.
The reliability factor for a hydro set up is definitely something to consider but getting it set up would be far easier than a mechanical linkage.
What it boils down to is how much screwin' around do you want to do getting the mechanical linkage right?
Welp i'm just about as tenacious as they come, so fiddling around with a clutch linkage wouldnt be a problem for me. I do like the way the pedal feels with a hydro clutch, but thats mainly sports car experience there...most of them now a days run hydro or cable setups.
But for trucks i'd prefer the mech clutch....easier to operate and its what my truck came with, that way i don't have to worry about fabbing or hunting odd & end parts to make it work.
Now just to determine if my T-18 has the correct input shaft, as its from an FE.
