I've got a 84 f150 4x4 I'm converting to stickshift, i got the pedal assembly out of an 83 and i have a zf5 from a 97 f250 2x4 . i was wondering of i could use the linkages and cylinders from the 97, or do i have to track down a donor bullnose?
oh while I'm asking questions i want to keep the 4x4 will i be able to just hook up the transfer case from my 84 to the zf5?
97 donor has a 351w and zf5 that I'm swapping into the 84
Just to verify, you are putting the 351w and zf5 from the 97 into your 84 ? Sounds like your 84 is/was an automatic ?
Wish you would have asked the question before you started. I'm sure this has been done before... I'm not an expert on that, but I'm sure it can be done. The mounts may need some adjustments...
Then again, anything can be done, it just takes money.

Yes it is an auto. i did a little research and it's supposed to be relatively simple (versus say, a t56 swap) i was originally just gonna use a t19/18 but this feel into my lap at a goodprice
The other forum you linked has proven very helpful though i still have my original questions i might do some in depth research there
Same problem. You need a 4x4 transmission. Good thing is, any Ford 4x4 transmission will bolt to your existing transfer case that is behind the automatic right now. A 2wd transmission can be converted to a 4x4 transmission, but you need the correct pieces and a total teardown to convert it.
Keep looking, overdrive is worth all the trouble it takes to install it. You will love your truck with overdrive.
What you could do is install the 4x2 ZF5 transmission and drive the truck as a 4x2 while you locate a 4x4 ZF5.
You just would not have 4x4 but would need to come up with a rear drive shaft unless you got it from the 250 and had the same cab / bed.
