Ok. The weed eater sliced a rear tire. These are on the 16" steel rims with retaining rings. The valve stems come out of a hole in the rims very close to a raised area around the rim. Currently, they have rubber 90deg valve stems. These barely fit and must have been a bear to install. My thinking is to replace them but with what? I've seen 90deg aluminum stems with grommets and a nut. I can't tell if they will fit in the space. Has anyone resolved this and what did you use? Thanks. I'll get a picture when I get home tonight so it's not clear as mud.
You better look closely at that valve stem if the tires are mounted on split wheels.
I say this because split wheels use tubes as air would leak out the split part.
edit: some older tubes used a locking nut to hold the stem in place or it could move and get cut ending with a flat tire.
Ever see a bike tire stem not straight? Yep it moved ans yes some older bikes (English?) also had nuts to hold the stem in place.

Got home late. Took picture using phone with it's light. Looks like they're all tube tires.
I think bias ply and tubes are the only way to go. I'll sand and paint while they are off.
So, correct me if I am wrong please before I go buy tubes. I think the correct stems are TR5A. Is there a better choice for these rims? Should I be looking for JS89 because of the height before the bend?
Anyone?

Sorry to say I dont know.
I would say find an old timer tire person and see what they have to say.
The other thing you may want to try is ask this question with pictures up in the larger truck area.
The larger trucks use split rims and tubes so they may have an answer to your question.

Holy smokes! Am I old or are they heavy? I just swapped the spare onto the corner for the flat. Had to before it got hot out. Busted a knuckle open. Don't want to sound wimpy here but without modern tools, that was a b1tc#!! The old jack:
An old twist and grind jack that was in the side compartment.
