I just picked up a very sweet 1997 F250 and I'm trying to find out how many gallons by tanks hold. The PO told me 15 gallons and when I filled up both tanks, that was just about right, give or take a little. And it was completely topped off when I filled her. But in all my google searches and search this forum, everyone seems to say its 18/19 gallons. Could it be possible they made a few 15 gallons? Thanks for any feedback.
Joe
Note.. The fuel tank level senders on these trucks are notoriously inaccurate so if both tanks appear to work correctly I suggest as a 1-time test you run each one right down until the engine begins to stumble before switching to other tank, this should give you a more accurate idea of the capacity in each one. You could also reset the trip at full to get an idea of how far it will go on each tank.

You are spot on Conanski, my gauge was on "E" today when I was driving and I didn't change tanks but was going to wait until it started sputtering. I drove another 50 miles and its still going. I'll find out tomorrow but so far I'm getting 13.8 mpg. Thanks!
When I am at 1/4, I'm looking for gas. I'm not waiting until it reads E or even below E. I do not see any benefit to wait until you have no gas. Your decisions become much more limited.

I have dual tanks.
My tank ran dry today on my way to work. Based on an 18 gallon front tank, I'm getting 14 mpg. I'm good with that.
