I have just recently replaced 3 marker lights and front parking light on my 78 f150. On occassion, the stereo cuts off when I give it throtle. It comes back on when foot off the gas. It would do this continuosly for about 10 mins or so. After the truck is running longer than this, the radio works with no inturuption. Also, I just noticed tonight that the right side of the instrument panel light was out. After about 2 hrs I went to replace the bulb and the light was on when I turned the lights on ! Could this just be the voltage regulator? Or what might it be? Thanks
If you want to check your system voltage, go buy a voltmeter and measure the voltage when you rev the truck up. Learn to use the meter, and it will give you lots of troubleshooting help on your older vehicles.
I second Dave's thought to get a meter. It's a lot faster and cheaper in the long run than just replacing parts.
Look for a bad connection, possibly the ground cable from the engine to the firewall, possibly in the dash. Trace it down with a meter (or test light). It's not that hard. A manual with wiring diagrams could also be a big help and well worth the investment.
