I have a gravel driveway. Whenever I pull out onto the road, I hear pings from all the little rocks flinging from the tires. Will mudflaps stop this? Ford mudflaps are pricey, like $750 for 4. Weathertech has flaps for $100 for 4. Any other brands to consider?
I really don't like the look of mudflaps, but I hate hearing that sound of rocks pinging off my paint.
I had the same issue, and after hearing the rocks ping off once, went right home and ordered the Wethertech flaps.
Super easy to install and they look and work great! Now I just hear the rocks pinging off of the flaps .
I went back to accessories.ford.com and found some basic Ford mudflaps for $106 for front and rear. The ones I mentioned earlier from that site were Gatorback models and were $740 for front and rear. I missed the basic Ford flaps previously.

Same here
- gravel driveway
- didn’t like look of mudflaps
- didn’t want anything mounted to paint
- didn’t want rocks pinging off the body
I researched a LOT and went with Rokblokz. Modified them to fit my wants / needs and LOVE them.

same here, normally I don;t care but recently i took mine on a dirt path that had sizable rocks that are just smaller enough to get wedged in the tread and made a ruckus when I turn onto pavement and got up to speed. I do have running boards so that's helpful but I would rather have both as well.
As a datapoint, the Weathertech flaps are too short in the front and rocks get flung up underneath the bottom of the flap on my F350 SRW. I also find that my stock Michelin ATX tires catch a lot of stones. I'm sure a combination of different tread and longer front flaps would make a difference.

Thanks for the feedback on the Weathertechs. I also have the Michelin ATX and they do collect rocks in those treads. Also, I have the power running boards, so they don't provide any additional protection to the sides like fixed boards.
I run gravel a lot in the summer and my tires definitely throw stones. I have the Weather Tech flaps front and back and I love them. I an able to run heavy tire chains and not tear them off, even with Tremor sized tires.
What is worse the the stones for me is that tons of mud and grime accumulates on the lower front corner of the door outside the seal. It gets nasty and the flaps cure it. My truck has 60k miles and almost no stone chips. Hard YES for the mud flaps from me.
I put Rockblox on my wifes Jeep. They are kind of flat and industrial which goes good on the Wrangler but I like the contoured fit of the Weather Tech flaps on the truck better.
I put the Weathertec “Custom” mudflaps on mine and have been very happy with them. They seem to do well when driving down gravel roads, however that isn’t often for me. I have the GY Wranglers and they do seem to pick up a few rocks and sling them, but between the mud flaps and the running boards, my truck is safe! I am actually much happier with them than I thought I was going to be! Here’s some photos of mine.

Rear wheel. Front wheel. Front wheel.
are they invasive to install? Meaning do you have to drill into the aluminum?
