21 years I own this truck …never so much a shopping cart ding. First trip out last Thursday night for a ride and the radial on the right steer axle peeled at 40 mph and beat the crap out of the front fender…tire was properly inflated and was 80 % tread…tires where replaced 6 years ago. 4 new tires 600.00 installed.
Sorry to hear of your trouble. Nice truck, by the way.
I had a Michelin radial peel off the tread at 60 mph on my F-350. The tire was 3 years old and had about 15,000 miles on it. The truck was empty and the tire destroyed the entire left side of my truck bed. I don’t mind blowing a tire. I hate when the tread peels off because of the damage it causes.
Tayco, that is so unfortunate! It probably scared you. How'd you get it home?
Is that your lift at home or at the tire shop?
I carry a spare between the two tractors but luckily my kid was home and he brought me out a 4 way lug wrench “that someone” borrowed off the truck and didn’t put back.
That lift is a thing of beauty I agree it also is an alignment rack. When the service guy was away mounting the new tires I grabbed a brake spoon out of my road box and checked my rear brakes real quick…I never had the rear drums off ever and was surprised to see I’m at over 60% lining left !

Is that a dent in your door too or just a reflection..nice truck and sorry about the damage..
Thats not too bad, it is the same size dent i kicked into the side of my truck in a fit of rage when i truely found out the motor was toast.
Do what i do and hammer it out and in your case primer and paint it.
I had a set of those Firestone 500's way back when they all started coming apart. It wasn't quite in the news yet, All 4 went bad within a week. Fortunately I had spare snows mounted, 2 spares. It was a couple of weeks before I made it into the Firestone dealer, it was in the news by then. That dealer was a real P rick about it, He was having a rant about it. Actually threw the replacements at the back of my car told me to get them mounted somewhere else. That was in 1975, I've never bought another Firestone. Their mistake, I drove truck for years. Never know what life's going to throw you. Glad you were not hurt or much more damage.
I had a set of those Firestone 500s on factory rims for my impala that i used for burnout tires and when i date coded them and found out they were the bad ones i realized my guardian angel must be Dale Earnhardt. I got rid of them last month but they never gave me issues.
my neighbor had a F350 dually years ago....he bought 4 new radial tires....put two on the front and one on each side in the rear.....pairing an older worn tire with a new one on each side of the dually's rear axle (same size tire, not sure of brand). In less than a year, he had the tread to peel off one of the new tires in the rear....taking the rear fender off the truck.
The tire dealer (who did not install the tires) told him to never pair an old tire with a new tire, it can cause separation resulting from differences in diameters and loading/scuffing of the new larger diameter tire. Seems logical, is it? This does not explain the steer axle tread separation of Taycotrains. I wonder if the brand tire he used had a history of tread separation?
Keep in mind tires are rubber... and rubber deteriorates over time! On my last visit to the tire store for balancing, they told me to get those tires replaced! Even though they have like new tread, they were well past the 10 year recommended life of a tire.
sorry i mixed things up, im tired. The new tire codes for 1980something and the oldest tires are from 1964 as i saw an old note in the truck log in the glovebox before it broke and spilled on the truck floor and got lost somewhere in the gap between the floor and back panel of the cab that said june ?? 1964 4 new tires installed.
