OK, I've just ordered a 4" superlift and I'm currently pricing tires (looking to get 33's). What kind of gears should I think about getting? Ratio and brand? Also, do you think that this is going to be too much for my I-6 w/ 150k miles? I'm freakin' clueless with this bronco! All I know is that mustangs were a hell of a lot easier to fix up!
--I don't know what gears I'm running right now... can only imagine that they are still stock.
Hey, I am not a bronco guy, but I have an almost identical setup. It's a 1974 F250. I would think the weight would be close. I have a built 300, 33" ssr's and 3.73 gears. It works great, with the only problem being no overdrive With a granny first, the 300 will climb like a mountain goat. If you aren't worried about the highway, go with 4.10s to really gear for power. Good luck, Ted
well this bronco is going to be taking onpretty much all of my driving for the next couple of months, so getting decent mileage wouldn't be a bad thing You said that you have a built 300, what have you done to it? I'm looking into doing some upgrading, because after 65 I might as well set the cruise (she ain't goin' much faster). Thanks for anything.
Mike
4.10s. You can also play around with this site http://www.4lo.com/4LoCalc.htm
I would definatley run 4.10s with those size tires. With that gearing, youre acceleration should be close to stock, but a bit faster (so you rev a little bit higher on the highways, but is definatley worth it around town.)
Personally, I haven't done anything to it. What I can see it an offy intake, holley 390, dual headers. The guy I bought it from said it had a cam and some other stuff. The external stuff alone is probably good to do, as well as easy.
another ford, check out www.cliffordperformance.com he's the 300-6 site. 4.10's would be my choice to. if you could fill out your sig with more info on your bronco. what tranny do you have. if its the aod you will have a great od with those gears. just remember you must do both front and rear diffs with same gears and at the same time otherwise you cant use 4x4. I would also recomend getting a haynes manual and learn your rig.
What about with 4.56 gearing with an AOD? For the record, I prefer the Chilton's manual for the F series and Bronco over the Haynes but I have the Haynes.
4.56 would work but might be a tad high for just 33's but if your plans call for 35's in the future i think it would be best to stuff the 4.56's in now instead of having it done twice because of how expensive it can be.
I have a chiltons but have found better pictures and discriptions in the haynes for some things. have both would be ideal
My tranny is a 5 speed manual w/ od. I would've bought one of the above mentioned manuals, but the parts stores were out of them until today. 33's are what I'm planning on currently, but once I get my other truck paid off, I can definitely see 35's in the future. Also, the tag on the rear diff. is missing, so I'm not even sure what I have right now (the bronco has had several owners and two of them can't give me any straight answers about what has been done to it )
Thanks for the responses.
