As much fun as dropping the tanks isn't. I would use the best quality I could for my pickups. Unbelievable how much those things cost though. When I dropped my rear tank it was totally full of garbage fuel from the truck sitting for 3 years. My wife works at a restaurant and I had her save used oil containers from the fryers. I pumped it all out into those and now use it for burning brush and cleaning parts. I told my wife if I had a CNC machine I could make billet pickups and make a few million dollars.I know I would pay $500 for pickups that never needed to be changed again.
There are a few common ways to eliminate the pickup screens with metal fuel line and place a bend at the bottom so it doesn’t get stuck on the bottom of the tank.
this is the most common way to overcome the factory design with the plastic heads. You can use the dorman ones but I wouldn’t expect them to last as long as the factory ones did.
I got tired of thinking about it. Used a piece of 11/32 hose. Cut a V in it and set it about 1/4" off the bottom of the tank. Now to run the front tank down and drop it...yay!
