I Have an 86 F-150 with 4000 on a rblt. 351w. and rblt.C6 tranny. It has a 4bbl Holley carb and I know the power is there somewhere. I Know it's no Nascar, It's quick off the line but has very little passing ummf when I want it.
I've been thinking about a new intake manifold and an Edlebock carb and upgrade the exaust system. I asked my mechanich about this and he said, "You'll never get any more power out of that 351."
I'm sceptical.
There has to be a way, does'nt there?
In your case I would try a few bolt ons: headers, dual exhaust with a good set of performance mufflers, aluminum 4bbl intake and carb, maybe an aftermarket distributor and ignition kit, since the motor doesn't have a whole lot of miles on it you could try putting a bigger camshaft in it. It is very possible to get power out of your 351, I think your mechanic is just telling you that so he doesn't have to do anymore work on it than he has to. You could have a shift kit added to the tranny to help your acceleration but your gas mileage will suffer ( as if it doesn't all ready!) Hope this helps!
