Got a pleasant surprise this past weekend when I went to fill my truck. Diesel prices are actually lower than gasoline prices - finally. I have seen the gap between gas and diesel range from diesel being up to $1.50 more per gallon than regular unleaded to the latest this week of diesel being as much as $.20 (20 cents) a gallon below the price of gas. As much as we paid (unnecessarily I believe) for diesel during the pandemic, it's nice to see the price difference reversed again. I can still remember years ago being told that diesel was a by-product of gas that was thrown out until they figured out they could use it as a fuel. I have tried to keep my tank at least half full over the past several months so the fuel bill doesn't get too much over $80-$100 a fill-up every week. And these price drops help that bill stay low. Hope everyone is enjoying the same thing I am at the pumps.
No such luck out here in CA. Just filled up today, diesel is still at a premium. Diesel prices have slipped a little, and gas has ticked up, but still seeing a 20-30 cent and up spread between regular unleaded and diesel pricing.
Fuel suppliers are transitioning out of winter blends, and standard summer fuel is cheaper to make, so prices have moderated some.
But, good old OPEC is reducing production now and that will mean higher fuel prices.
Just be glad for what we have now, in a few years when electric vehicles proliferate the roads, fuel prices will go sky high due to lower demand, refineries will be shutting down, won't that be great for the country?
Here in SD I just topped off in preparation for a 3 week trip up north and I paid $4.89 at the pump using credit.
Diesel is still high around here.
Local 7-11 was $3.75 for regular and $5.19 for diesel in my part of the Soviet Socialist Republic of NY yesterday. 12 miles away it was 10-12 cents lower.
Guess I'm just very fortunate to live in San Antonio then. I've seen diesel for as low as $3.16 a gallon and with Gas Buddy or the Valero app, I can save as much as .20 - .25 cents a gallon on top of that. I even managed to buy it (with savings applied) for as little at $2.92 a gallon. I hope the rest of you see savings at the pump soon, but from what it sounds like, that's not going to be the case. Until the infrastructure is in place for all the electricity that will be needed, I don't see electric vehicles being as popular as President Goofy seems to think they are. It takes time to build up to something major like that and 3-5 yrs is not enough time to get it all in place.
I remember witnessing diesel cost getting as high as +70% higher per gallon of gasoline. Wow.
Diesel is only ~ 5% higher now in my area. One station had diesel at -0.02% lower
Yeah, diesels get ~ 20% better fuel economy. But other maintenance and repair costs (if not fuel itself) easily eat into that advantage.
** But then again, I didn't buy a Super Duty truck to daily drive because I was worried about keeping costs low. haha.
Would of sold the travel trailer and bought a Maverick if I wanted a "truck" to be as cheap as possible.
