So I noticed my interior had a smell- I thought it may be the daily runs with an 18 yr old sweating after sports on a daily basis.
I put an ion machine in the cab and ran it 2 days straight- got in the truck and was happy- drove truck and after 10min the a/c came on and gagged me with the smell.
now what?
do I run truck with a/c on and machine running to try to clear smell?
is there something you can spray into a/c?
I will pull the cabin filter but it was new…..,,
Yeah there is a foamer spray you can spray into the overflow tube that cleans the coil. I have bought used ones so bad I actually had to get my mechanic to cut open the box and hose the coil out (work trucks).
You can then ozone it, its done for less than 1 hour I believe. You can run it on recirculating while doing it, 50/50 hot/cold and AC on and all positions on.
You can also spray a can of disinfectant like lysol through the fresh air while in the same operating position but fresh air.
You would want to let all this dry up real well before ozoning.
Would do all this with the filter out and put a new one in at the end. 5 min job.
Also run it on fresh air intake as often as possible.

listen for water sloshing on turns.
there is a problem with the AC elbow that lets water drain into your cab. mine had a gallon of water under the pax floor area. I put in two 1/8 drain holes in the lowest point and did the rubber elbow mod and the carpet is now dry and no more old sock smell.
Mine does it if I run the ac on recirc. Any time it gets wet outside for any reason it smells musty. If I turn recirc off and run regular ac, it doesn't do it.

There is? This is the first I've heard about this. I've never had a problem, but don't want to wait until I do - what do I need to look for/at to ensure this doesn't happen?
so the truck has smelled fine for a bit now-
a couple days ago the the temps were up a bit and i noticed a bit of smell after baking in the sun all day-. today after work the interior sunroof screen was rolled back and when i opened the door it stunk- pungent smack in the nose stink. so i thought about the day. it rained for a couple minutes- like drizzled for half hour then sun for the afternoon......
i am wondering if my sunroof is leaking and the headliner is damp and baking in the sun for musty stink?
not even sure how to drop the headliner or test the drains on the sunroof........
dont spray Lysol in the fresh air vent, all you are doing is sucking it into the cabin filter. Remove the cabin filter, set the fan on high and shoot the disinfectant spray directly into the airbox while the filter is removed. empty about half the can. Reinstall a fresh filter. As mentioned above, turn off AC a few minutes before arriving home during the summer to help dry coil.
Dead rodent maybe. Had one get in my insulated coffee cup when i left the lid open while shopping. Been slurping coffee till empty and found the drowned mouse in it only when i got home.

wow thats great......
so it rained off and on all day. my floor boards seam dry.
i notice the smell on warm days after the truck is parked outside baking all day mostly. its like STRONG B-O. i originally though my 19 yr old left his soccer stuff under the seats lol.......
i wonder if something is up above the headliner and sunroof screen? i looked but cant see anything with the liner installed.....

It has been an issue for a number of years, and it can affect all of them, even though the MY isn't listed (yet*). It is TSB192345. Very easy to do.
ok- so i swapped the cabin air filter out 2 times while "fogging" the box........... truck didn't smell then smelled again and then hasn't smelled in a while.... yesterday we had a half hour shower (we are in a drought so no rain in a bit) and as soon as i got in i could smell it. I retracked my sunroof liner and wooosh stinky..... i felt the liner but can't really tell if its wet. i looked at the inside edge and it looks yellow around the seam of finish and unfinished material, but this may be the adhesive?
now to research the sunroof weeps and track to see if this is the issue. i never ger interior drips or floor puddles but it was definitely in the perimeter of the sunroof stink. the front fabric pop up air deflector was wet to the touch when i opened the glass to inspect.
