I need help with my 4x4 not engaging. I have a f150 1999.
When i turn the swith inside i hear a tick tick but nothing else happens.
I checked the vacumm under the truck it seems to work fine, it moves and looks like it holds it's vacum with the manual pump. I checked the hoses they look fine to. I would like to know what happens between the swith inside to the little "gysmo" on the left of the truck (top left behind the battery) when your facing the engine, can i test some of the things a certain way.
On top of the transfer case I found an electrical connector you might check for,you may find it loose or disconnected. Also, what about fuses? Look on the drivers side by your left knee theres a panel and inside the engine compartment drivers side theres another one.
As well as checking what Rusty said you should probably check for vacuum to the solenoids by the battery. There should be full vacuum going in to them.
If you do a search on here you will probably find quite a bit of info that should help you. Some of it is getting old now so make sure you specify any date in your search.
Let us know what you find.
just got my 2001 back from ford after noticing the 4x4 wasnt working in our last snow storm. it was the electronic transfercase shifter. the swith would click and the 4x4 light would come on but there was no 4x4. anyway the part costs 240 bucks and takes less than and hour to install.
With the connectors disconnected from the solenoids there should be 50-100 ohms resistance across the solenoid terminals on both solenoids. you could apply power and ground to each solenoid with the connector disconnected and see if vacuum goes through or not.
