94 E250 -- Horn Circuit, Help needed.
Hi, My clockspring is FUBAR so I'm trying to bypass it and wire in a switch to activate my horn. Now I know that I can simply remove the horn relay and then jump pins 30 + 87 at the connector with a switch to sound the horn. However, I'd prefer to leave the relay in place which leads me to my question, so here goes.... So I've got 4 wires coming into the relay connector they are as follows: A thin yellow and light blue wire to pin 30, A thin yellow and light blue wire to pin 86, A thin yellow and light green wire to pin 87 and a thick dark blue wire to pin 85. Perhaps I'm wrong but I was under the assumption that the dark blue wire goes to the clockspring so I thought that if the relay is in place if I simply provided a ground to the dark blue wire that the horn should sound....after all isn't that what happens when the horn button is depressed normally? However, I tried this and nothing happened. I was using a piercing probe in order to try and ground that dark blue wire and it's possible that it didn't make good contact, then again maybe my assumption is incorrect and grounding this wire is not what I need to do. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance !
