I picked up my new to me F250 on Monday from the dealership. A 2017 XLT Crew Cab, 6.3 gas engine, 3.73 gears and the FX4 package. I’m coming from a 2018 F150 XLT Crew Cab with the 2.7 twin turbo.
This is the first 3/4 ton truck I’ve owned and it’s a necessary evil for me. I loved the F150 but we purchased a larger travel trailer in the fall and it pushes the limit of F150 in every way. I did do a couple short towing trips and the F150 handled it just fine but in the back of my head I knew that no matter what it wasn’t the right truck for the job.
I don’t plan on doing much to it. I already have a tailgate assist coming in today. I put that on the last truck and fell in love with it especially for the kids. Other than that I want to remove some of the chrome and replace it with either PTM or black. It came with an extang revolution cover on it and while it looks fine I don’t think it’s going to work well for keeping water out. I have to play with it a little to see if I can get it to seal tighter if not I’ll have to order a different cover. I also want to try out Forscan on this truck to change a few things but that’s about it on the list.
This truck will do the job for you. I've owned four 6.2/3.73 trucks. Depending on the terrain just be ready for it to scream at over 4k on the tach in the hills.
That's not really a problem. You'll hear a lot about how that's where the 6.2 makes it's power. I just got sick of it after multiple trips from the NY/Canada border to Florida and moved on to a 7.3 10 speed.
You won't go wrong with the extra towing capacity, larger brakes, etc. on a Super Duty as opposed to pushing the F 150 to it's limits.
I’m buying (I think, hope?) my first 3/4 ton for the same reasons you did. Right tool for the job mentality. I’m going to hitch up w/ a ProPride (more than likely) and pull as stress free as I can hope to. Looking at around 26’-28’ or so, 8k pounds GVWR max.

I used and will be using still an equalizer 4 way WDH. it worked wonders of the F150 for both the new trailer and old trailer. Our new camper is 27’, 6,600 dry and right now is about 7,400-7,600 loaded up. It can max out at 9,600 but that’s a lot of added weight that I don’t ever think I’ll hit.
The move to the F250 is a big stress reliever for me. I just couldn’t see myself putting my family of 4 in the F150 and pulling the camper long distance knowing I was maxed out in every way.

Nice truck! You won't have a problem towing that trailer. I towed a similar one with my F150, 3.5L eco boost up the Ike Gauntlet, 11K feet. The heavier truck will pull it with no sweat. You have nothing to worry about! Enjoy.
That is a very nice truck and it was a very smart move. Like a lot of us, I went from several F150s to the F250 and luv it. Good luck, and happy camping.

I also had many F 150's before moving up in 2014. On my vacation trips with a 2013 F 150 5.0 pulling a 7x18 enclosed with 4 motorcycles, luggage, tools etc. and getting 8-9 mpg I decided that if I was going to get Super Duty gas mileage I might as well drive a Super Duty and get the other benefits of a heavier duty truck. Haven't looked back.
Your F150 would have done the job fine had you had the bigger ecoboost or the 5.0 . But congrats on the F250, it'll do the job better, you won't even know it's there esp with your 4 point WDH, which is way overkill for that camper, but since you have it may as well use it obviously. I tried to buy that WDH for our camper and was unavailable at the time and the place selling it to me told me the 2 point would be fine in his opinion. His opinion was right, I've yet to need the 4 point.

Yep, the 3.5 or 5.0 with the max tow would have met all the criteria. It still would have been close but it would not have pushed the limits like it did with the 2.7 but I figured if I needed to buy a different truck I was just going to go overkill and never worry about it. I also agree on the WDH now it’s not even needed but I have it so why not use it. Just an extra layer of help. I actually can’t wait to hook up and pull it the 4 hours to our Memorial Day weekend trip.

I’ve read most HD truck people keep their WDH for the sway control.

My dad has the 2.7, it's fine for anything except towing. I agree keep using the WDH, it'll help with sway and takes a whole extra 2 minutes to hook up. Enjoy your camping trips for the year!
