Trans. service while engine out
Trans. service while engine out
Howdy,
2008 F150 KR CC 2wd here. I'm waiting for my engine to come back from the engine shop. I want to check the basics on this transmission while everything is apart.
I have the pan òff, just some black dust on the magnet but not much. Fluid was darker than I would like but not burned. I have only driven this truck about 3 miles downhill to my place (bought it with oil pressure issues), so I don't know for sure but I didn't notice any issues driving. All of the internals that I can see look clean.
I want to flush the coolers and lines, and would like to drain and refill the torque converter.
I also want to install a temp. gauge.
Questions---
Can I install my temp. sensor in the 1/8" Line port on the front driver's side of the transmission? If not is there a better place for 1/8" sending unit?
Is there a drain plug on the converter or can the old fluid be dumped out?
Is there anything inside that I should address or inspect while truck is apart?
Can I get more fluid out?
Should I go back with OEM fluid or is there something better out there? Approximately how much fluid I need to refill?
Thanks!
