Just having a problem with my 2000 F350....turn the switch on the dash to go into 4 high or low range and nothing happens, no lights on my dash, no hubs locking up....check fuses under my dash and they seem alright, anyone have any ideas???
I don't think this is a vaccum prob. cause i can over-ride that system and lock my hubs manually. pulled a couple plugs on the transfer case to check connection, 2 pin plug was clean with no voltage to it when trying the switch, 6 pin plug was clean and had voltage to pins but nothinbg would change when flipping the switch. Checked all the fuses and everything is good. I dont no about this ESOF stuff, seems a little unreliable to me, just need a damn lever to do the job.........
And if the 4wd works when you lock the hubs, then the switch is engaging the transfer case. I don't know why "4x4" doesn't light up on the dash though. My truck (01 f250) was doing the same thing, but when I threw the switch to 4wd, it would light up on the dash even though the hubs weren't locking. Turns out crud had gotten into the stock hubs and they were all jammed up. I put in warn manual hubs and plugged the vacuum line.
Tried just manually locking the hubs but that doesn't seem to do it, transfer case doesnt seem to be engaging into 4 high or low range. Pulled my dash panel back to check switch wiring, it looks all good. Wondering if anybody knows about the G.E.M.(generic electric module)...not sure if it might have something to do with it....I'll keep looking ......
My 4x4 lights up but i tested it on some ice today and it is not working i even tried using the emergency brake to make sure the rears stopped spinning but nothing from the front.
User SMB, I would be real interested in any technical info you can give me on how to get the stock hubs freed up as I suspect that is the issue.
Am i correct in assuming from your post that when you switch to 4x4 you are engaging both the transfer case and the hubs?
Because it definitely feels like the transfer case is engaging.
Mine is a 99 F350 CC 7.3l PSD
this happened to me until i got tired of dealing w/ it. took of the battery cables and the reset gave me anohter 6 months before it would go out again. finally got a new module. Also had a vacuume leak at hub at 120,000 miles that was an inner hub seal but the dash lights would come an indicateing 4wd however the ac would shoot out the defrost vent instead of the dash vents the vacuum wouldn't hold the vent open.
come to think of it I have noticed this mysterious changing of where the heat is being blown from the upper or lower vents without me changing any vent settings though I don't remember if this was while i was in 4wd or not. I'll have to pay closer attention to when this happens.
