Water jackets rusting through?

Water jackets rusting through?
My father owns a 1999 F350 Power Stroke. He has heard from several people that the power strokes are having a problem with the water jackets rusting through into the cylinders. Anyone have any info for me?

I haven't heard anything about rust, but it could be the result of cavitation, as suggested earlier. Without the recommended additive, your coolant will form bubbles that attach themselves to the inside of the cooling jackets, which will pit the surface. Over time, enough of this activity can create pin holes that will allow the coolant to enter the cylinder.
