I need to touch up some paint on my 1986 F150. It is a 2 tone scheme, tan top and bottom with brown in center. I am trying to find where the codes are, are they on the door sticker, or the buck tag? Posting photos of both
I'm not sure where the codes are. If you go to an automotive paint shop they should have OE paint charts that will allow them to mix the right colors. This will be closer than an auto parts store can get with their color match camera and solar light.
I would definitely say Light Desert Tan is the top/bottom color on my truck. But the darker brown in the center is what I'm trying to find code for, surely the wouldn't call that medium desert tan.....?

The folks that give names to colors are a special breed. Very imaginative. There are infinite shades and tones so their services will always be in need....

and this site shows 9N as Medium Desert Tan, offical ford paperwork called it Metallic which this site doesnt mention. The metallic colors when clear is worn or no longer there will lose the metallic look and will appear darker.

I know my Bullnose has SS paint. You can test this with polishing or rubbing compound. After buffing a panel the pad will have color on it if the paint is SS.
If you get a metallic color SS make sure you're a good painter if you're going to spray it. It takes skill to make sure the flake is suspended evenly in the paint and lays down when spraying it. I experienced this when I TRIED to spray SS silver metallic paint on the front bumper of momma's Kia Soul. I should have just rattle canned it.
I am pretty sure our trucks did not have 2 stage paint so I can't see the clear wearing off as it is in the paint.

My truck has midnight blue metallic color. I think it had a separate clear coat applied as the roof and hood, the areas subjected to the most sun, is where the clear coat broke down and peels off leaving a duller paint coat behind.
