Hello everyone, my name is Uriah and I live in Central California. My family owns 40 acres north of Paso Robles. I build houses for a living but I am always learning to do other things. I have a portable sawmill that I use to make my own lumber with. There's a huge variety of trees out here and I use the lumber to build furniture in my woodshop. I also have an Everlast MTS 251SI multiprocess welder and a 50 amp plasma cutter that I can do any kind of welding I need done with as well as fabricating anything I need. I've made a couple of utility trailers and I'm working on a car hauling trailer right now. I recently let go of my 2016 F150 xtracab because I need a stronger truck to haul logs with. Here on the ranch I have a 1999 F350 4x4 dually with the 7.3L Power stroke diesel. The computer went bad so my father parked it. In the meantime the rats destroyed the interior and ate holes in the wiring. I would like to find an F250 4x4 ExtraCab with a blown engine that I could swap out for the one I have. Can anyone tell me how I can go about finding a truck like that?
I love that area, been through many times and been to the EDGE&TA tractor shows there a bunch of times when I lived down in the desert.

I have one of those! If you're eventually going to part it out I might be interested in a few things.
It's going to be a matter of looking around. A lot. That age of truck is becoming more scarce these days, and the 7.3 usually outlasts everything else on the truck. It might be slightly easier to find a computer and all of the ruined stuff for the dually than finding one with a bad 7.3 .
One thing I found helpful is to add the words "mechanic special" to my searches, especially in CL and FB.
Thanks for the search tips, I'll definitely use em. And ya I have been thinking the same thing about just fixing the truck I have right here. I will certainly keep you posted about what I do with the truck. I did find an F250 4x4 with a bad engine but still a clean body. The only thing 44 it's in Montana! That's gonna cost a lot to trailer it down here. I'm wondering about the CA emissions also, like is everyfthing fairly simple to switch over? I really appreciate the welcome and helpful response from you guys as well.
I don't think even California checks emissions on a 1999 Diesel. I believe you'd be good. If there is anything emissions related in the CA truck, it should swap over.
I haven't done this though. You might want to ask the folks over in the "1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel" forum. They'll probably know more about gotchas like that.
