Some what new guy here with a question. What does the initials SPOUT stand for and what does it do and where is it on my 93 4.9 engine. I understand most if not all of the initial definitions as I read the posts but SPOUT I do not. Thanks Ralphie.
Don’t know where it is. Or what it stands for. But on my 302 people told me if the computers bad and it’ll start without it. And to remove it to set the engine timing. There’s other people that can tell you more than I can. That’s all I know about it.
It is on the driver's side, up by the ECU may be hanging loose, it is a small Gray dongle type thing.
The motor will start with or with out it plugged in.
It is used to be able to set the base timing which should always be at 10d before TDC with the SPOUT removed.
SPOUT= Spark Output. It is the signal sent by the computer to control the timing. The SPOUT plug is a simple shorting bar to connect the computer to the Ignition Control Module (ICM). SPOUT plug out removes the computer SPOUT output which allows the ICM to trigger off the raw PIP signal from the distributor so you can set the base timing. With the SPOUT plug in the computer is controlling the ignition timing.
This is the ignition diagram for your 1993 model year truck.
