2 steps backwards (a rant)

My plans to have this truck running by spring, and a new a/c system installed by summer are looking bad.

Been trying to get my EFI conversion dialed in. It's been a struggle, but i'm close. When i floor it, it dies. Otherwise it seems to be working great. No issues with fuel delivery, and replacing the Igniter 3 with an Igniter 2 have helped me get it idling at 650rpms pretty well. I think it's an issue with how much additional fuel is dumped in during a fast throttle, and slight adjustments have been helping.

I noticed the power steering pump shaking, and the bolt holding the PS bracket to the cyl head looked loose. Took a mental note to fix that once i got done dialing in the full-throttle issue.

That was until the starter started grinding. Starter is a new mini-starter. I'm assuming i found a bad tooth on the flywheel or maybe the starter came loose somehow? Not quite sure yet.

Since i wasn't dressed to crawl under the truck, i decided to get that p/s pump bracket tightened up. Started turning the bolt, maybe 5 ft-lbs, and it suddenly started spinning easier...uh oh.

Took it all apart, and the bolt didn't break off in the cyl head. Instead, a chunk of the cyl head is now missing? I must have been only 1-2 threads into the hole before i started tightening it up. I guess this bolt was the wrong one.

My local hardware store NEVER has what i need, so i ordered new bolts based off the part number specs. The bolts that arrived are like 6" long for some reason, while the previous bolt was only ~ 3"in long. Great.

My plans to have this truck running by spring, and then a new HVAC and general road testing by summer, are not looking good. It's been nothing but delays. Today I wanted to get out to it to see if the bolts were going to work and shorten them as needed, but just thinking about it made me frustrated. Maybe tomorrow...

I feel your pain all too often. But when things start falling into place, the satisfaction is great.

I agree that it gets overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes it is good to just step back for a minute and clear your head. Go ack to it the next day with the mindset that you are going to work on one thing. That way you just keep taking those small bites. Good luck and keep at it, we have all been there and feel your pain!
