Heres the problem, I've got a 2000 Excursion V10. I started noticing that the Fuel Gauge, Battery Gauge, Oil Temp, Water Temp gauges don't come on when the truck starts up. Its been taking about 5-10 minutes for them to come on. Although, since its getting colder out the gauges take longer to come on.
I don't know about your newer vehicle, but the older ones have a guage regulator mounted on the back of the guage cluster. It works sort-of like a flasher unit, turning the voltage on and off to keep the guages steady when the voltage in the truck varies. If the new vehicles still use this, I would suspect it as the problem.
