Hey everyone. I'm going to look at a 96 f-250 with a 7.3 and zf5 this weekend and I wanted to get some input from the collective on what to look for. The main thing for me is it has a fuel leak from one of the lines going to the fuel bowl (current owners description), anything I could bring with me to do a temp fix for me to get it back to my house for a proper repair, about a 30 minute ride.
It also had a SAS done with a D60, anything I should look for as a potential red flag there? Anything else I should be aware of, the truck has 207k on it. From the pics, the body and frame look good for a New England truck.
Sounds like a fun project. The location of the leak is the question really. Some 3/8 & 5/16 hose and clamps likely would get some remedies to get it home. If one of the lines is issue. You still have filter housing, regulator and pump potential issues. You need to have somebody start it while you look for the leak.
I'm curious what you find in the end.
Good luck!

I agree with the fuel line recommendations. If it’s a return line, it could be a problem. I had one burst about 21/2” from where it enters the head and no one in area had a replacement line. I used 5/8” heater hose and 4 worm clamps to sleeve the passenger return line. Made it home 50 miles and ordered new ones from riff raff. I also resealed the bowl/fpr/all hoses to the bowl during the at home repairs. Figured while it’s out once, do everything I could. When my return line bursted, I lost gallons of fuel in matter of half an hour. I could see the gauge creeping lower and lower regardless of tank selector was on.
also added mechanical gauge to check the valley pump. Few npt-4an fittings and liquid filled gauge did the trick.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions,it turned out to be a blown return line so I used White95PSD's idea and got it home, no issues.
It needs the usual rust repairs in the rocker area and the trans is a bit choppy going into 3rd and 4th sometimes but everything is there. It's going to be a fun project!
