Where is the annoying chime located that goes BONG BONG BONG when the key is in the ignition. I don't want to eliminate it, I just want to put some sound deadener around it so it's not so dang loud. The thing drives me nuts.
On my '94, it's a cream colored rectangular cube on the right side of the steering column. It doesn't have a convenient spot to apply sound deadening material. If you disassemble the box, you might find the speaker to cover with foam... I didn't disassemble mine to know.
There's a blk ground pig-tail under the cover of the steering column that connects to key cylinder.
Unplug the spade connector & wrap in tape & put the covers back on.
Or do what I do on mine & install a small switch to cut it off/on.
That way you keep your alarm enabled for things like the headlights left on & turn it back on after you lock yourself out a time or two & still work in silence with the door open too.

I have to remove the bottom cover of the column next week to put a new key cylinder in it. I'll look for it while I'm in there. Thanks.
The chime part should bolt to the same bracket as the ABS and speed control modules inside the dash to the right of the steering column and behind and to the left of the radio/heater controls
I either got really lucky today or smiled upon by the Lord. I dropped the bottom cowling on the steering column to change the ignition key cylinder. There was a black wire blocking the retaining pin hole. I moved it out of the way and it came loose from wherever it was attached. Thought to myself oh S#*%, hope that was not important. Put it back together without the black wire hooked up and as Gomer used to say... Suprise, Suprise! Everything works except the annoying BONG>>>BONG>>>BONG alarm. I am basking in the tranquil silence of not having to hear that thing again. Life is Good

Welcome to your new life of "Shoot! I locked my keys in the car."

Umm… neither? That is what that black wire does. It sits in a notch and wasn’t “technically” attached to anything.
