Hi folks. Got a question concerning the Map/Sync 3 Download Subscription. I got a card a bit ago that I could get an update once a year for 5 years for $199. My question is, can I also use this in another vehicle? The same package (amongst others), shows up when I put in the VIN for my Edge. But if I do the download, does it download for that specific VIN only, or can I also update my truck (and/or vice versa) with the same download?
Interesting. How do you get these updates? Was it a dealer thing when you bought the truck? Free is much better than $199!!

Nothing to do with the dealer. Everytime, so far, that a nav update has been available It gives the choice to download for free or pay for a USB drive that is pre loaded with the update. I always choose the free option. Last nav update I did was September 2022. Maybe that free option will stop some day. Maybe the first 5 years of ownership is free?
If or when it is no longer an option to download for free, I will no longer update the Nav.

Same with my Explorer which should be the same as your Edge.

Go to CyanLabs and do the update. I took mine from Sync3 2.7 up to 3.0 using my home WiFi and the Ford update.
Then I used the CyanLabs method to take the unit to 3.4.xxxxx or whatever the current and latest version is and it is a blue background.
Using ForScan to make changes to the Bambi light mode, a reverse reminder chime, Open windows via remote setting and more.
These are the updates available for my truck. None of them are free.
As far as I know, updates to the navigation map have never been free. Updates to Sync are always free.
I does cost if you want them to send you a USB drive or have the dealer perform the update; but downloads have been free. Not so with Sync 4; mine has already expired and I have no plans to pay for a subscription.

I have Apple CarPlay and Waze is my default navigation application. Basically, while I do have Sync3 ver 3.4 and updated maps, I only use Sync3 as a screen for my iPhone. Don’t use it for the navigation no how.
Besides, Waze is real-time reporting of road conditions, traffic, and obstacle reporting.
Too many times I lost the cell signal when I needed directions from Waze the most. I don’t remember specifics but there were other functions unavailable while using Waze as well.
The truck’s Nav supplemented at times by Google Maps proved to work best for me driving around the country.
From the owners.ford.com site, when I go to check for Navigation updates, it takes me to the "Subscription" page. I think I'll pass on paying for the Nav updates. I have maps on my phone in two different apps. I download maps to my phone ahead of time in case I lose cell coverage.
