engine question

I've got a 1990 F-150 XLT Lariat, and I need to know whether I have the 5 or the 5.9 litre engine. This is important, apparently, with regards to new battery selection. Can I get this from the VIN, and if so, where in the VIN will I find it? Thanks

Usually it is on the emissions or vacuum diagram sticker under the hood

its either 5.0 or 5.8, not 5.9, if your truck is fuel injected, check the top of the intake manifold. mine says "5.8 Ford" on it.

I'm not for sure on 1990's but on 1994 it is the 8th position from the left. N = 5.0 302, H = 5.8 351, R = 5.8HP 351, C = 5.9 359 ( Inline 6 diesel).

C = 5.9 359
What motor is that? You sure it's not for the 7.3/444 Navistar diesel?

I'm not sure what it was available in. I got it from a Ford factory authorized service manual that I have. It's listed as a 5.9 liter 359 cubic inch , Inline 6 cylinder cummins diesel.

I'm guessing that went in the F650's and 750's?

Your probably right. I've never heard of it in a F150 - 350 series.
