I just purchased this 92 150 and the inside door handle broke off. Is there any way to replace that with something stronger or do i need to go find a new one at a junk yard. Do you think it would last if i just JBwelded it??? I hate opening the window to open the door.
nope, one screw, then remove window crank, then just pull, start at bottom, work to top, then lift up off of window. I have 2 decent door handles you can have for 5 + shipping that are the same plastic, I like mine on my 84 because they are metal!
well his a bit different, but the same thing, there are screws in the arm rest, and all along the bottem and sides, then plastic clips hold it on, so you need to get under it whith your hand,s and slowly lossen it out, dont pry it or you will break the panel. they do sell new one cheap, ebau has em sometimes
Sometimes the plastic handle breaks, and these are on e-bay all the time - bid away. They bolt on to a hinge that forms the moving part of the door "remote. " Alternately, one might find a set of the old metal interior handles that were used up to 86 - These might even bolt up, not absolutely sure tho..... The other thing that seems to happen is that the metal under the handle fatigues - we don't notice until the handle moves up instead of along the normal path of travel - it just pulls up a strip of metal where it is bolted to the inner door skin. Here's the fix - remove the interior panel, and unbolt the door handle from the inner skin. Take the bolt to the hardware store and find a large thick fender washer at least 2" od, and a nut for the bolt. Remove the original u-nut on the door inner skin, and discard. Use a hammer to tap the metal back into place, and re- assemble the handle using the large washer and nut behind the door skin. This will spread out the pressure of using the handle a million-zillion times, and make the mechanism tight again. Hope this helps.
