I recently bought 2 t85n’s for $100 they both have both bolt patterns is one of them the 49-64 bolt pattern? What were these two bolt patterns called or what do they fit?

Right, the '64 and earlier and the '65 and later. Top loader 4 speeds are that way. The Ford 303 3 speeds might be.

so how does the T5 with ford bolt pattern fall in with these two bolt patterns or is it it’s own animal? Sorry I’ve been digging at this whole scenario for a couple of weeks trying to see what is compatible trying to do my homework

T5 has its own pattern. There are T5 specific bells for the SBF V8s, adaptors for the others.

https://www.moderndriveline.com/prod...ters/standard/

The T5 allows interchange of tail shaft housings which also means you can change the shifter location.

So you get a Mustang 3.35 low gear transmission with a Chevy S10 tail and forward shifter location. Or similar stuff like that there.

Using the S10 or Astro Van T5 will get you a weaker transmission with 4. something first gears, thus the marriage of the Ford/Chev spec parts.

But I digress......

Thank you for the info it was much help I think I just need the offenhouser 5204 adaptor I’m trying to put this t85n behind a 235 Chevy and it wasn’t clear on bolt pattern for their adaptor other than it said early ford bolt pattern 49-64 but I have both patterns and the research was kind of muddy on the t-5 pattern being different. My main thing is I want to retain my 3 on the tree and pick up overdrive. I’ve learned you have to be careful what you bring up in specific groups doing a cross like this but I’m not an imposter been a member for many years I also have a 46 ford 1 ton pickup I’m only 35 and interested in keeping this old iron around and on the road much appreciated
