I just replaced my door lock switches and I still have the same probs. The only one that works is the passenger side, and it only unlocks when you push it to the LOCK side. Is this one of those common quirks? If so, is there a certain place I should go look for the prob or am I looking at troubleshooting the wiring from scratch? Also, I looked around in Haynes and I couldnt find anything that told me which wires get power when the switch is used. Did I just miss it or is there somewhere else that I need to go to for this info?
Ok, it only LOCKS when you hit the UNLOCK? Sounds like the switch is either in backwards or you have lost a connection in the switch wiring harness. If the earlier models are the same as later years, the wiring for the driver's side switch passes through the passenger side switch first. So, if there is something wrong with the passenger side switch or it is missing, the driver's side will not work at all.
I tried the new switch in both ways....Plugs in either way. When you push it to the LOCk side, it unlocks the doors. And only on the passenger side. Drivers side is dead altogether.
My drivers side has never locked using the power lock button, since i have had it anyways.
I havent had a problem with the pasenger side... except that it wont unlock my door either. Kinda wish I didnt have power locks... seems kinda pointless with only two doors and no key fob to unlock them from afar. I feel the same way about my power windows up front, I wish I could get rid of them easily.
You have a bad switch. The passenger switch is the master, so it's killing the driver's switch. When you put a good one in, the driver's will work again.
Swap them and see what happens. It's easy to buy brand new defective parts, so don't assume they're good just because they're new. Where did they come from? I'm about to add the power door lock page from the '93/94 EVTM to the Diagrams album in my signature link. Your wire colors are probably different from what's shown there, but the circuit is identical.

Here it is. In '92-96 trucks, everything to the R of the dotted lines is in the R door, and the rest spans the dash and is continuous into the driver's door. In '80-91 trucks, there's another connector at the L door, which would be just L of where the fuse comes in at the top.
Yep did that too. I expect a part to be bad but not 2 side by side. I got em from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. The prob of it only unlocking and from the passenger side only was why I went to replace them. But theprob is still the same even after the new switches
BillyBob I had this problem on my low miles 89 found out it just needed some grease is you key hard to turn?may be more resistance than the accuator has muscle. Good Luck
Did you replace the switch bezels, too? They're specific to the door they go in, which means that you need a R bezel for the passenger door and a L bezel for the driver's door. If you're using the wrong bezel, the switch will seem to operate in reverse.
You also have to install the switch in the bezel correctly for the functions to match the labelled directions.
The fact that only the lock function works suggests that the Pk/Y wire or the Bk wire at terminal 11 is broken. Pull the sockets off the switches and inspect the terminals inside them.
Nope....I haven't switched the bezels yet since I haven't found any. Jeff's Bronco Graveyard didnt have any. As for the switches, they plug in either side either direction. Doesn't matter which switch I use or which direction it goes in , I still get the same prob as I had to start. Will only unlock and only from the pass side, and only when you push in the lock direction. As for the terminals, I went through all the conenctors in both doors and all is ok. they are are clean and make a solid connection.
I do appreciate all the help on this everyone. I think however at this point I am going to have to hunt for a schematic specific to the wiring on my truck. Looks like I get to go spark chasing! Weeeeeeee
The 36058 Haynes manual has that specific circuit in the '81-83 diagrams. In the last edition with the red cover, it's page 12-29 just below & L of center. In the current edition with the blue cover, it's in the same location on p. 12-28.
