Service Question
Got stuck the other week in 12 inch's of snow. When I was in 4x4 I apparently "leaked out" power steering fluid. If not in 4x4 I really don't loose any. Any thoughts from the experts would be appreciated.
More explanation of how you arrived at this conclusion is needed.
How do you know it is only leaking ps fluid when in 4wd?
There is no good reason why it would only leak in 4wd and not when in 2wd.

You think that would be the case. Drove downtown and back didnt have much of a drop. Engage 4x4 and plow re-top up the reservoir from leaking. I'm was thinking it's the rack and pinion, but don't really know.

These trucks don't use a rack and pinion. Where is it leaking out of?
Traction control is supposed to disable automatically when you go into 4wd isn't it?
Only in 4 Lo, in 4wd Hi traction control is still on. I have discovered that I REALLY like the deep snow/sand setting on the 10 speed for my snow adventures. This disables the traction control and keeps the rpm between 2000-2500 rpm on the 7.3 which makes towing the sled up the mtn road much more pleasant.
I have never had a PS leak on mine. I am at 55k miles, almost through a second season of snow plowing. I run 4wd a LOT in the winter and it has never caused me to lose fluid. That includes lots of low speed steering with an extra 1000 lbs cantilivered out over the front end. I can not imagine what is causing it to leak. maybe you have a small hole in a hose and extra pressures on the system in 4wd are just enough to cause it to leak. Should be easy to find where it is coming from, no?
What year / engine / model is your truck?
The fluid most likely shot out the vent hole in the cap
It can drain half the reservoir in 2 seconds if you turn the wheel with the engine off
Yours may have done it with the engine running if you were plowing heavy and cranking the wheel hard

Same here, this isn't my 1st f250. Have had 4 before this one 2022. Never seen this issue that why I thought I'd ask.
