I think it's just to let you have an easier time getting that chunk cut out, especially the last bit of that inner corner.

That makes sense and is especially important with the F-250 frame being significantly thicker than the f-100 and F-150.

Flowney, If I do shorten it it will be the bed only. I started looking for a short bed for my Granddaughters 78 ford that has the original step side bed on it. She like the looks and more room of a fleetside bed, but now she is thinking about having me build the 76 longbed. But its up to her, I'll build her ONE truck....LOL
